Prof. Jack Henion (Cornell University) - 2003 Martin Gold Medal Winner
Dr. Henion is an internationally recognized leader in the field of mass spectrometry (MS) and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS). He is credited with seven patents and has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals on these subjects. Dr. Henion is also a cofounder of Advion BioSciences, Inc., a provider of mass spectrometry services and products to pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners worldwide, and has served as the company's chairman of the board, president, CEO and member of the board of directors since 1993. In addition to his work at Advion, Dr. Henion managed a major research laboratory at Cornell University, where he served as a professor of toxicology for more than 24 years and is now an Emeritus Professor.
Dr. Henion earned a bachelor's degree from Alfred University, a master's of science from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York in Albany. The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists has recognized him as a Fellow for his contributions to analytical chemistry. In recognition of his contributions in the field of MS, Dr. Henion also received honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Ghent, Belgium and the University of Uppsala, Sweden.
